Please believe the Qur'aan, and not the man-influenced, error-prone ahaadeeth. The Qur'aan repeatedly asserts that it is easy to understand. And, unlike the ahaadeeth, the incorruptibility of the Qur'aan is divinely guaranteed. Please don't delude yourself by what the ahaadeeth say. Remember, one day, you have to be face-to-face before Allah. He will not ask you about the ahaadeeth; He will ask you whether you have faithfully implemented His instructions given in the Qur'aan

God tells us in the Quran how to prepare ourselves for the Salat Prayer (5:6), but not HOW to pray it. God tells us that the Zakat charity is an obligation (2:110) and when we should give it (6:141) but not HOW MUCH to give. If God has decreed specific rites, then we are obligated to practice these rites as God has decreed for us to practice them. But how do we know?
Abraham asked God to

“teach us the rites of our religion, and redeem us. You are the Redeemer, Most Merciful” (2:128).
Abraham goes on to ask God to send a messenger to the people “to recite to them Your revelations, teach them scripture and wisdom, and purify them.”
God answered Abraham’s prayers. He taught Abraham the rites of our religion

[21:73] We made them imams who guided in accordance with our commandments, and we taught them how to work righteousness, and how to observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and the obligatory charity (Zakat). To us, they were devoted worshipers.

So When the Quran was revealed, all religious duties were already established through Abraham (2:128, 16:123, 22:78).

The Quran comes to confirm and supersede the previous scriptures. It does not give us information on a religious matter if it is already practiced correctly and there is no change from the previous practice. Hence the percentage of Zakat and the units of Salat have not been mentioned. But some practical change in the nights of fasting has been pointed out. (2:187).
If i told some body to brought one shoe and shirt, he will bring a pair of shoes and one shirt only , he will not bring any other things and no need to mention specifically bring a pair of shoes. Why ? he knows about shoes and shirt. Similarly when Allah command us to observe contact prayer s and give zakat, the people at the time of Quranic revelation knows very well about namas and zakat. Hence there is no more questions from the people. Another example can be seen in Quran, when prophet moses told the peoples to sacrifice a cow, the peoples responded with un wanted questions and all the queries were answered immediately.
The Quran teaches us that we learned all religious practices from Abraham. The whole Arabian society before and during the time of Muhammed had many followers of the religion of Abraham. Thus Abu Lahab, Abu Jahl, and the idolators of Quraish used to observe Salat prayers as we can see in 8:33-35
2.5% zakat came to us through generations who met yearly in Hajj since Abraham and NONE of them ever came back telling the Muslims Zalkat is 7.5% for example. This universally accepted percentage does not contradict the Quran and goes along the fact that Zakat is older than the Quran. In the third revelation of the Quran, 73:20, God ordered Muhammaad and the believers to pay "THE" Zakat, not just any Zakat.
This "THE" ZAKAT means it is something already known to Muhammad and the believers and not something left for Muhammad or everyone to invent.
70:24 is the only verse that refers to the percentage. It says that it is
Ma'luum = Known.
This means Zakat percentage was known at the time of Muhammad, and did not necessitate any correction by God in the Quran. This is exactly the case with the number of rakats of salat and other aspects of it that were not restored in the Quran.

Verse 2:215 and 2:219 speak about Zakat and charity respectively, using the same term Nafaqa (unifiquun). Although the same word is being used for other charities (in 2:219), the amount is specifically defined in the verse as being "afw," meaning "the excess." Thus, clearly not obligatory.
When we study all the verses in the Quran about Zakat and other types of charity, we realize that Zakat cannot possibly be from "the excess." Instead we learn that it is a known percentage (70:24), which is to be paid out on the same day we receive any income (6:141). We also see that Zakat is specifically mentioned by name (ZAKAT) or expressed as "haqq," meaning "duty," or "haqqun ma'luum," meaning "known duty," and also occasionally described as "Nafaqa" (unifiquun), meaning "to spend," as in 2:215.
please correct me if my understanding is wrong
May Allah Guide us

<strong>Mohammad Shafi responds:
The Qur'aan teaches us how to pray. See study notes <a href="http://www.islam-n-interest.com/QSV-I.php#N2.4" rel="nofollow">2.4</a> & <a href="http://www.islam-n-interest.com/QSV-I.php#N2.108" rel="nofollow">2.108</a>.
As I said before, Verse 2.219 tells us that we should give away that which is in excess of our needs. If we have nothing in excess we need not give Zakat. The known portion of wealth referred to in 70.24 is what is in excess of one's needs in terms of 2.219. You cannot read two Verses of the Qur'aan in contradiction to each other. And you have completely misconstrued 'the Zakat' occurring in the said Verse 70.24 and in many other Verses. Along with Riba, Zakat is defined in Verse 30.39. Az-Zakat (the Zakat) occurring in all other Verses means Zakat as so defined.
The Qur'aan describes all the rites that we are required to honour. Why don't you believe the oft-repeated Qur'aanic assertion that it contains everything in details for leading an Islamic way of life? It is wrong to say that all religious practices were already established through Abraham, when the Qur'aan was revealed. What about the Hajj rites, for example? Abraham could not at all have performed them the way it is described in the Qur'aan. You are confusing the religious rites with Abraham's <em>millat</em>, which is nothing but his steadfast devotion to Allah and Allah alone. We have all to follow this <em>millat</em>.
Your shirt and shoe analogy ill-suits your contentions. The religious practices of Meccan people, at the time of Qur'aanic revelation, was nothing but dancing and clapping, (in the nude sometimes), at the Kaabah (Verse 8.35).</strong>

Prophet Abraham's millat was to worship Allah and Allah alone. That is the millat we are asked to follow.

As regards Zakat, Allah has commanded that we give away whatever is in excess of our needs (2.219). There is no question of any percentage here. The 2 and a half percentage that is in vogue now was only the government levy (<em>sadaqah</em> in terms of Verse 9.60) at the time of the Prophet and the Khulafa-e rasheedeen.

Indeed Quran is a fully detailed and a complete book.
Accepting any other sources of guidance constitutes the setting up of other gods beside God; IDOLWORSHIP. (6:19).

But the disbelivers are in doubt and they will ask questions like, If Quran is complete , where we can found the Number of Rakaat,% age of zakat etc?

Yes such details are not mentioned in Quran. Since He has not mentioned it in His Book, it goes without saying that it is not absolutely necessary and important in the eyes of Allah?
Does it mean we can use our intelligent and circumstances to decide the number of rakaat and % age of zakat etc?

A group of people among the followers of Quran alone claim that we can use our intelligent and circumstances to decide the number of rakkat , %age of zakat etc.

But they forget or not considering the facts that all religious practices was given to prophet Abraham and prophet Mohamed was a follower of Prophet Ibrahim.
[2:128] "Our Lord, make us submitters to You, and from our descendants let there be a community of submitters to You. Teach us the rites of our religion, and redeem us. You are the Redeemer, Most Merciful

[16:123] Then we inspired you (Muhammad) to follow the religion of Abraham, the monotheist; he never was an idol worshiper.

Al Mighty Allah knows that the peoples lived at the time of Quranic revelation knows about Salat and all other religious practices which was given to prophet Ibrahim and it was preserved and hence commanded prophet Mohammed to follow the religion of Abraham.

Accepting and following the pattern of prvailing rakaat numbers and other religious practices which are not mentioned in the Quran will not contradict the statement that Quran is a fully detailed book. We have to follow such parctices if it is not against the Quran, if we follow the command 16:123

But all our religious practices should be devoted to Allah Alone and we cannot remember any others names or anything while performing our religious practices.
But the common practice following now is totally against this. Peoples are uttering other names and remembering other things while performing their prayers and there by devoting the prayers for others and Allah, which nullifies their prayers.

Comment on Tahajjud and Nafl Prayers by NPK

[4:103] Once you complete your Contact Prayer (Salat), you shall remember GOD while standing, sitting, or lying down.* Once the war is over, you shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat); the Contact Prayers (Salat) are decreed for the believers at specific times.

As per verse 4:103, we can say that Contact Prayers (Salat) are decreed for the believers at specific times.

There is no Sunna prayers as per Quran. But the traditional peoples quote 17:79 and 73:1,73:2 etc for the extra night prayers. But all these verses says mediate at night for extra credit. This is not only applicable to Prophet Mohamed but also applicable to each human being.

The Arabic wording : "tahajjad behi nafelatan" that is used in 17:79 (you shall meditate for extra credit) is indeed very significant and clear. . "Tahajjad," means nothing but staying up at night in praying. "Behi" is a crucial preposition that means "with it", and it definitely refers, grammatically, to the word Quran that is mentioned in the previous verse (17:78). In other words, God is telling us to stay up at night meditating with the Quran. "Behi" excludes all other sources, and point at the only one source and tool, the Quran. "Nafelatan" means extra credit or bonus. The three dynamic words together confirm over and over the manner of meditation at night as recommended by God almighty ; reading the Quran.

It might be very crucial to our souls to search for the divine manner of meditation as expressed and defined by God through His perfect Arabic words in the Quran. It seems that God almighty has provided us with a manual for meditation, and indeed, God's recommendations are always superior, and vital to our souls

Meditating with the Quran by reading it as clearly recommended by God in the above verses is often mentioned side by side with observing the contact prayers, paying our obligatory charity, and leading a righteous life:

[73:20]....You shall read what you can of it, and observe the contact prayers (Salat), give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and lend GOD a loan of righteousness. Whatever good you send ahead on behalf of your souls, you will find it at GOD far better and generously rewarded. And implore GOD for forgiveness. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful

It is only through the perseverance in reading the Quran that we transform in a way to align our inner self with the righteous choices and actions. We thus advance from being submitters to the higher ranks of belief and certainty. In other words, our souls get healthier on the righteous path daily, and progressively. Isn't this the higher rank clearly promised in 17:79, when we meditate with the Quran?

It might be very crucial to our souls to search for the divine manner of meditation as expressed and defined by God through His perfect Arabic words in the Quran. It seems that God almighty has provided us with a manual for meditation, and indeed, God’s recommendations are always superior, and vital to our souls

Meditating with the Quran by reading it as clearly recommended by God in the above verses is often mentioned side by side with observing the contact prayers, paying our obligatory charity, and leading a righteous life:

[73:20]….You shall read what you can of it, and observe the contact prayers (Salat), give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and lend GOD a loan of righteousness.

Isn’t this the higher rank clearly promised in 17:79, when we meditate with the Quran?

I fully agree with you the Naafila Salaat is only for the messenger to prepare himself for the next day job description he had to face earliest. This was to prepare himsself for local or foreign delegates . This is not imposed for a common man. Yes.! Three Salaat (Dalook, Gasak or Ishaa or Maghrib and Fajar are necessary or Furd over allMuslims.

Three Salaatare quite practicable through out out world with any disturbance in the daily activities.

Present Ishaa Salaat after Maghrib is not mentioned in the Quran.

When the sun set is Maghrib or Ishaa has the same meaning.

After the Maghrib or Ishaa starts the night which is for the rest not to pray.

Fi Amaa nillah

I refered the above mentioned study note 451 to 455 and I would like comment on your words mentioned in 453 (quoted below )

453. But where is the Qur'aanic authentication for our uasur and uishaa prayers? I do not find it anywhere. But interpreters twist the plain meanings of the above-quoted and other verses of the Qur'aan to count the number of prayers in a day to five.

Brother Mohamed Shafi, how can you say Isha prayer is not mentioned in the quran. Please refer 24:58. Salatul Isha is mentioned there.

The topic under discussion seems to make confusion regarding the number and times of our regular prayers. Some Quranist says only three salat are mentioned in the quran and some others says 5 are mentioned in the quran. Based on my little knowledge I would like to mention the following

3 salat are confirmed from the verse 11:114.

[11:114] You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) at both ends of the day, and during the night. The righteous works wipe out the evil works. This is a reminder for those who would take heed.

Obeviously both ends of the day means before sun rise and after sunset- Fajr and Magrib and by during the night means Isha prayer.

Again in 24:58 , 2 paryers are mentioned by names ( Fajr and Isha )

[24:58] O you who believe, permission must be requested by your servants and the children who have not attained puberty (before entering your rooms). This is to be done in three instances - before the Dawn Prayer, at noon when you change your clothes to rest, and after the Night Prayer. These are three private times for you. At other times, it is not wrong for you or them to mingle with one another. GOD thus clarifies the revelations for you. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

[17:78] You shall observe the Contact Prayer (Salat) when the sun declines from its highest point at noon, as it moves towards sunset. You shall also observe (the recitation of) the Quran at dawn. (Reciting) the Quran at dawn is witnessed.

Here we can see the time of Noon prayer as when the sun decline from its highest point at noon and it moves towards sunset.

[2:238] You shall consistently observe the Contact Prayers, especially the middle prayer, and devote yourselves totally to GOD.

In this verse we are commanded to perform the middle prayer. ( Asar)

<strong>Mohammad Shafi responds:
I didn't say Isha prayer is not mentioned in the Qur'aan. What I said was that there is no authentication in the Qur'aan of <em>our</em> Isha prayer, meaning the night prayer Muslims offer now after darkness of night sets in.
The confusion about the timings of the prayers is not because of any lack of clarity in the Qur'aanic Verses. It is purely because of Muslims' illogical & highly laboured misinterpretation of the Verses done merely to bring them in tune with the <em>ahaadeeth</em>.
I reiterate what the plain meaning of the Verses tell me. And what these Verses tell me is described in my <a href="http://www.islam-n-interest.com/QSV-IV.php#N2.451" rel="nofollow">study notes 2.451 to 2.455</a></strong>

Nowadays, if you ask a person about Satan and how does He affect him; most probably you will hear one of the following answers:
An Atheist: He will tell you that Satan does not exist.
A Christian: Most Christians think that Satan is a mystical figure that exists but it does not affect people what so ever.
A Muslim: He believes that Satan exists, however, he does not know the mechanism by which Satan affects him with.

It is known from the Noble Qur’an that every human has the following:

1. The voice of oneself: The voice you speak with which is referred to as the voice of oneself. This voice has a characteristic frequency that distinguishes it from the voices of other people. And when a person thinks quietly he or she hears this voice in his or her head (i.e. the same voice the person speaks with). This is called the voice of oneself which is the voice you speak and think with.

2. A companion Devil: It is also known from Islamic teachings that a companion devil is assigned to each and every human at birth. This devil strives to mislead and to cause pain to the person he is assigned to. The purpose of assigning such a companion devil is a test from the creator to people, to see whether under all these temptations a person will turn back to his creator and follow his commandments or not. However, the manner by which this companion devil affects the person he is assigned to is largely unknown

This ignorance regarding the mechanism by which Satan affects people by is very dangerous and destructive and why Allah (God) Almighty warned people in every heavenly book about Satan and His deception

The manner by which the companion devil (Satan) affects humans can be known fully from the Noble Qur’an by thinking and reflecting upon the above Qur’anic verse 17:64.

Allah (God) Almighty teaches us that Satan tries to befool and to trick humans with His voice. The question now arises as to the nature of the voice of Satan. Allah (God) Almighty gives us the answer to this question in verse number 4 in chapter 114 of the Noble Qur’an, as follows:

114:4. And from the evil of Satan who whispers and hides from humans.

Allah (God) Almighty states that the companion devil (Satan) whispers to humans with His voice but at the same time He hides from them. The question now arises as to how Satan can whisper to people and at the same time hide from them? The answer to this question is stated in the section to follow.
The answer to this question can be deduced from the following Qur’anic verse:2:168

2.168. O people eat from what Allah (God) Almighty has made lawful to you from what the earth brings and do not follow the steps of Satan. Verily, He is an open enemy for you.

The first step in answering the question as to how your companion devil can whisper to you and at the same time hide from you can be deduced from the statement made in the above verse where it is stated that the devil is an enemy for humans. And thus an enemy can inflict maximum damage if he made you think that he does not exist and this is usually done by the enemy camouflaging himself.

The manner by which the companion devil camouflages himself and the only way he can whisper to you thoughts and hide from you is if he matches his voice to your own voice (i.e. the voice you think to yourself with).

Thus the camouflaging of Satan is done by Satan matching the tone, pitch, and style of His voice with the tone, pitch, and style of your voice (The one you think with) to make you think that the ideas you are hearing in your head are your own and that you are thinking to yourself with them. So when a distributing thought comes to you and you hear it in your head, you think that yourself is telling you this but in fact it is your companion devil telling you these thoughts in order to cause you agitation and pain
How to deal with the whispers and ideas of your companion devil (Satan)

Allah (God) Almighty teaches people what to do when Satan whispers to them by the mechanism described above, such that the cure from Satan whispers can be stated in two points, which are described below:

Step 1: The first step on how to deal with the ideas of Satan can be found in verse 36 of chapter 41:

41:36. And if an evil whisper from Satan comes to you, then seek refuge in Allah (God) Almighty. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

Where Allah (God) Almighty teaches us that when an idea of Satan comes to ones mind, he or she should seek refuge with Allah (God) Almighty, which means that you should remember that the source of these ideas is your companion devil (Satan) and subsequently Allah (God) Almighty will not hold you responsible for them, however, you will be judged on whether you agreed with them and carried them out or not.

Step 2: The next action a person should perform when an idea of Satan comes to him is stated in verse 168 of chapter 2 of The Noble Qur’an:

168. O people eat of that which is lawful and good on the earth, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Verily, he is an open enemy to you.
In the above verse Allah (God) Almighty instructs us not to follow the steps Satan lays down before us, which means that do not perform the action Satan wants you to perform as He instructs you to when He whispers an idea in your mind telling you for example to commit adultery, to harm yourself or others, to blaspheme against Allah (God) Almighty, etc.

The next question that a person might think of is the following: How can I distinguish my thoughts from those whispered by Satan?

The answer is found in the Noble Qur’an in verse 169 of chapter 2, where it is stated that
2:169. Your companion devil (Satan) commands you what is harmful, sinful, and to say about Allah (God) Almighty what you have no knowledge of.
